SILLY STRING: Self-Portrait

100 Cans of Silly String

Curiosity is what drives my 'Studies' work. This piece explores that fantasy of what it would be like to spray 100 cans of silly string. It sounded like a lot of fun. It sounded extravagant; over the top. Actually it was quite awful choking on all of the gas from the cans for the eight minutes of spraying. But after all of the chaos of the spraying and dizzy from the fumes, the scene grew calm, much in the way after a party. The final image of myself buried in this colorful blanket of spray shows both chaos and calm. It is the time frozen and still, but embedded in the stillness is the chaos of all that preceded it.
